Much of western society is now engulfed in a bizarre hysteria dominating academia, politics and media, while also crippling industry and economic progress. This madness is fueled by belief in the purported world-wide threat of climate change (sometimes referred to as, “global warming”). Left-wing politicians, God-hating university professors, activist journalists and others have been on a quest to raise awareness about climate change and instill panic among the American public – especially in young, impressionable minds. These environment fanatics have proven they will stop at nothing to force their message of impending doom down the throats of every man, woman and child, as they call for radical societal change at any cost.
Although public figures have made more than a few predictions of coming disaster brought on by man-made climate change, nothing they warned has come to pass and their credibility has been lost to many. Still, they have recently concocted a bold, sensational new claim that the world will no longer be habitable in only twelve years from now (which means the end of human life on earth by the year 2031!). Others claim our demise is further out, but they continue to advocate the chicken little mentality all the same. I have personally witnessed this kind of hysteria for years. In my high school days, many of my classmates and teachers touted films such as “An Inconvenient Truth”, a documentary by Al Gore, to rationalize their support for urgent climate change activism. Since my youth, Hollywood has only increased their efforts to brainwash the masses, producing science fiction shows and films like 2017’s “Geostorm”, starring Gerard Butler. The success of such films proves that many still buy what the media is selling them, and the lie is making headway. In fact, the alarmist doctrine of climate enthusiasts is advancing by leaps and bounds, making converts all over the world. A friend of mine works at a polling location in Germany and tallies the votes that are cast. He informed me that the number one concern of voters he has encountered, by far, is climate change. Many Germans believe their country will be under water in 100 years if current greenhouse gas emissions continue. Recent gains by the Green Party prove the widespread acceptance of this lunacy.
On Facebook, I lately observed photos of climate change protests taking place in the Philippines. The Filipino activists blame human governments, including their own, for allowing the conditions which contribute to the supposed rise of sea levels and depletion of the ozone layer. They demand stricter regulations to reduce emissions and the overall “human footprint”. In every country where the climate lie is being taught, the brain-washed populace believes the solution is international awareness and political action. They see mankind as the only force that may collectively stand in the way of this perceived threat. There is never consideration for an all-powerful God or his eternal plan for the world since he is completely absent from their hearts and minds. Of course, at the source of the climate frenzy are those who stand to benefit politically, socially and financially. There is a lot of money in environmental showboating and plenty of companies have “gone green” to receive government subsidy handouts for what they claim to be “clean technology alternatives”. Also, eugenicists seeking population control have found their silver bullet in the climate change deception as they convince the masses to refrain from having children – children who would pollute and overpopulate the earth they cherish.
Prominent women, including members of congress, have become “birth-strikers”, vowing to have less children, or no children at all, in order to spare the planet from supposed breakdown and collapse. As many as one third of millennials have expressed a favorable view of this movement as they fear any children they may have will prove disastrous for the earth’s future.
As we all know, many young people are seeking purpose and a way to make something of their lives. Rather than allowing them to find value in serving God, the political elite have foisted the climate change hoax upon them, which deifies creation and ignores God’s plan to use it for his eternal purpose. Such deification of nature is nothing new (cf. Rom. 1:25). They think the God-shaped hole in their hearts can be filled with an aspiration to “save the world” but we know it can never be filled in this humanistic way. Devoting one’s self to fighting climate change will never satisfy the heart because God is not involved in such a task. It is an unattainable goal invented by man. The only solution for unhappiness and despair is to fear God and keep his commandments, “for this is the whole duty of man” (Eccl. 12:13). The only One who can “save the world” is Jesus Christ, who grants “life and life to the full” to everyone who believes in him (Jn. 10:10).
Due to the godlessness of climate change hysteria, the indoctrination has naturally taken hold of the masses who do not know God or his word but even some believers have been deceived and have fallen for the myth in recent years. Notably, it has entered some unsuspecting churches as leftist preachers have infiltrated congregations in an effort to spew the hideous message of the political left. They secretly bring in heresies that distract from and substitute God’s truth with a long list of ethical and doctrinal lies (cf. 2 Tim. 4:3 & 4; 2 Pet. 2:1). Climate change lunacy is just one of those lies being introduced in pulpits across the land. However, evangelical Christianity, as a whole, has not been convinced to join the fruitless fight against climate change. At least, for now. Most believers are not paralyzed by fear of drastic weather changes and most still believe God is sovereign over his creation, able to do with it exactly what he pleases. True Christians know that God is “Lord of heaven and earth”. He created the world to be inhabited, even marking out the boundaries of man’s dwellings, determining their habitations according to time frames he has appointed in history (Isa. 45:18; Dan. 4:17; Acts 17:24 – 27). “He is before all things” and he upholds all things by his “powerful word” (Col. 1:17; Heb. 1:3). Therefore, to argue that man is able to make the earth uninhabitable by negligence, or even by purposeful intent, is to deny the awesome power and foresight of God, who created this earth and determined its habitations in advance. Furthermore, to argue that man is capable of saving the world from doom is profound arrogance and blasphemy against God, the one and only Sustainer of all things. To add to all this, God already promised that he would never again flood the world. He placed his rainbow in the sky as a reminder of the covenant he made between himself and “all life on earth” (Gen. 9:12 – 15). Still, the world is full of unbelievers who fully expect a future similar to Kevin Costner’s “Waterworld”. They know the rainbow only as a symbol of sexual perversion. They are confused and
hysterical because God has allowed their minds to be blinded by a “strong delusion” (2 Cor. 4:4; 2 Thess. 2:11 – 12). They are spiritually bankrupt, and they will become even more bankrupt when the time comes for judgment on those who do not know Christ and his gospel (2 Thess. 1:7 – 9). In the meanwhile, their insanity and obsessiveness stand as an end times testament of how hopeless it is to have no faith in God and, by contrast, how wonderful it is to be free in the truth of Jesus Christ. In spite of all the climate change folly, could there be any truth to what is being said? Is there a Biblical reason to believe that humanity has an effect on the earth and, if so, is man the cause of any of the world’s ecological disasters? The Bible answers these questions.
The Scriptures teach the world does suffer and has been subjected to decay, but it has nothing to do with greenhouse gases, ozone depletion or anything caused by the industrial age. The earth has been cursed since man first sinned in the Garden of Eden (Gen. 3:17 – 19). Old Testament prophets spoke of the effects of man’s sin on both land and animals (cf. Isa. 24:1 – 6; 33:7 – 9; Jer. 4:23 – 28; 12:11 – 13; 23:9 & 10; Hos. 4:1 – 3; Joel 1:4 – 20; Amos 1:3). The earth, and all created things, have been subjected to futility and continue to languish as “destroyers of earth” commit sins against God, against one another, and against their own bodies (Rev. 11:18). Such sins include adultery, homosexuality, theft, swindling, murder, the practice of magic arts, drunkenness, and idol worship (1 Cor. 6:9 – 11; Rev. 9:20 & 21). God may use natural disasters, including drought, fires or swarms of insects, to punish nations participating in these heinous acts. He has done so many times. He will do so again, on a world-wide scale, during the Tribulation period. Nevertheless, his word promises that he will one day heal the land when he refines it with a cleansing fire, laying it bare for renewal (2 Pet. 3:10 – 13). He will deliver his creation from “the bondage of corruption” (Rom. 8:19 – 23). This promise of redemption is sure. He will not allow his creation to perish. Notice Joel’s uplifting prophecy to the soil, animals and humans who love the Lord and wait in expectation of his salvation:
|“Be not afraid, O land; be glad and rejoice. Surely the Lord has done great things. Be not afraid, O wild animals, for the open pastures are becoming green. The trees are bearing their fruit; the fig tree and the vine yield their riches. Be glad, O people of Zion, rejoice in the Lord your God, for he has given you the autumn rains in righteousness.” – Joel 2:21 – 23|
If one possesses faith in these wonderful promises to preserve the earth, the fear of climate change becomes both unfounded and irrational. Those given to the hysteria, on the other hand, despise the promises of God and reject the hope he offers. They are enticed by a “deceiving spirit”, working through prophets and prophetesses of doom, including 16-year-old activist, Greta Thunberg (comp. 1 Kings 22:19 – 23).
Thunberg and others spew the climate change hoax, permitted by God as a form of judgment on an unbelieving world. He gave them up to a depraved mind so that they would believe the lie (Rom. 1:28). And he certainly has every right to “choose their delusions and bring their fears upon them” (Isa. 66:4). Yet, their fearful demise will be far worse than rising sea levels or dramatic weather events. Their reward for unbelief awaits them in hell, “where their worm does not die, and their fire is not quenched” (Mk. 9:48). As the spiritually blind reject the goodness and mercy of the sovereign Creator, Christians behold and cling to the magnificent promises of God, knowing that his will remains firm and his promises sure. – MAH
